The Perfect Holiday Treat: Simple & Sweet Cranberry Hemp Balls

November 25, 2013

I was in Chicago last week to show the windy city how to make a simple, healthy and way-out-of-this-world delicious treat to make for the holidays. It’s my Sweet Cranberry Hemp Balls. Don’t be thrown by the h-word as it is not the hemp that your high forefathers smoked. It is a seed, or actually a fruit, that contains all essential amino acids, protein, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and more. It’s a super duper food that no one should live without. Anyway, please try this recipe and let me know if you have any questions. You can see me demo it here on WGN-TV. These balls will not only be a fete for your Thanksgiving table, but more importantly a fete for your palate. You can find this and 49 more mouth-watering gluten-free, vegan and allergy-free recipes in my new cookbook Sweet Debbie’s Organic Treats.

Sweet Cranberry Hemp Balls

1 3/4 cup gluten-free oats
1/3 cup gluten-free flour
1/3 cup hemp seeds
3/8 teaspoon guar gum
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
6 Tablespoons coconut oil
6 Tablespoons coconut nectar
1/4 cup dried cranberries

Add all ingredients to big bowl. Mix and pour into 8×8-inch parchment lined pan. Put in oven at 325F for about 20 minutes. Make 1-inch balls with warm “dough” and then freeze for one hour. Place in mini cupcake liners and serve or pack as a gift.
